Welcome to My Blog

 I have been an avid reader my whole life. 

My first real memory of being enthralled by a book was on my seventh birthday. My dad bought me the whole Chronicles of Narnia series and I read each book from cover to cover. I didn’t understand them, (really, what seven-year-old would) but the mystery kept me thinking about the stories long after I was done. Over the years I have gone back and re-read them, each time gaining a better understanding of the overall story and a reminder of why I loved it so much the first time.

Over time I discovered my favorite genre – mystery! I have read all the original Sherlock Holmes stories. Did you know there are other stories about this character written by other authors? I learned that recently, and some of them are so like the style of Arthur Conan Doyle that you might think he wrote them. I also love anything by Agatha Christie and, lest you think I only read works by dead authors, I’ve enjoyed multiple books by Ruth Ware, Lisa Jackson, Mary Kubica, Kate Morton, Shari Lapena, Lisa Jewel, and many others. I’m still working through Sue Grafton’s alphabet series. Her character Kinsey Millhone is so relatable. I love her. (I’m on N is for Noose. I just went to her website to check the release date for the final book starting with the letter Z, and, oh my goodness, I had no idea she had passed! I’m sad now.)

Other genres I enjoy are psychological thrillers, crime and detective stories, science fiction, and adventure. For non-fiction I read anything from the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, sewing guides, memoirs, Canadian Running magazine and the occasional news article. 

Now my plan is to review all the books I read. This will be a brand-new experience as I’ve never written a review before, but I do read a lot of books. I have a list in my bullet journal of everything I’ve read so far this year. I might go back and review a few books I already read, primarily those that stood out to me, but this blog will be for books I have yet to read. 

So welcome to my blog. This is going to be a journey of learning, getting my voice out there, maybe even taking a few courses so I can become a better writer and proofreader. I’ve been thinking about doing this for a long time and now that I’ve done it, I’m so excited! Here’s to a new chapter in my life!
